Hi, I'm Andy! I became a therapist because I wanted to help people like me.
My therapeutic interests are based on my own lived experiences as a queer, non-binary trans person who struggled to make it through my childhood and teen years. I had my fair share of mental health struggles and found myself navigating issues like depression, anxiety, complex trauma, self-harm, and urges to end my life. I felt utterly alone, and know first-hand what it can be like to suffer in silence, longing for change, and struggling to find someone who "gets" you.
If you grew up in a home where you didn't get the support that you needed, if you went through something that you feel like you have never recovered from, or if you feel like the black sheep everywhere you go, you aren't alone. I remember how that feels, and I won't judge you for how you cope with it. When I was looking to escape that despair, I reached out for support to see if my life could look different. Learning to trust a therapist and gain hope for the future wasn't easy, but it made a world of difference.
After significant healing on my own mental health journey, I graduated from the University of Toronto with a master's degree in counselling psychology so that I could start working as a therapist. I spent 3 years working in the Toronto shelter system and have been providing therapy in a substance use treatment centre ever since. I have had the pleasure of working with a diverse group of people from all walks of life, and with some of the most complex challenges out there.
With your consent, I would be happy to co-create a non-judgmental healing space where you feel seen, heard, and valued. We could work on things like learning to understand yourself, re-gaining control of your life, and appreciating the parts of you that have clawed you out of your darkest times. If we are a good fit, I look forward to joining you on your path forward.
We recommend that potential clients book a free 15-minute consultation session to ask questions and make sure we are a good therapeutic match.
